"You Can Change the World: Local Politics 201"

Saturday, July 8th, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

 
Local grassroots activist groups Ditmas Civic and Indivisible 9th NY will co-host "You Can Change the World: Local Politics 201." A member of New Kings Democrats will give a presentation on the Kings County Democratic County Committee and the RepYourBlock campaign.

RepYourBlock is

"a campaign led by New Kings Democrats – in collaboration with other Brooklyn political clubs, local progressive politicians and candidates, and everyday citizens – to help reform-minded Democratic voters run for County Committee." (http://www.repyourblock.com/about)

The free event will take place on Saturday, July 8th, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. It follows up on April's Local Politics 101, which focused on the basics of state and city politics. Ditmas Civic and Indivisible 9th NY co-hosted that free event as well.

Indivisible 9th NY is made up of a group of progressive neighbors who live in the 9th Congressional District. Congressmember Yvette Clarke represents the district.

HELP YOUR NEIGHBORS OF ALL AGES IN KENSINGTON AS A NEW YORK CARES VOLUNTEER

Work with children and adults in Kensington and children in Windsor Terrace as a volunteer through New York Cares. Help children with reading, crafts, educational software, cooking, and tennis. Help older people by serving them meals and socializing with them.

Help throw an afternoon gathering for Holocaust Survivors living in Brooklyn. Show the seniors a good time by dancing and mingling with them and enjoying good conversation. Assistance is needed with event set up and clean up, plating and serving meals and socializing with the seniors.
CFY Digital Learning Workshop at JHS 62 K - AM Session	Saturday, 10/13/2012 Saturday, 10/27/2012 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Bring computer technology to middle school students and their families, during CFY's Digital Learning Workshops. Guide families as they learn to navigate their computers and explore educational software. At the end of the day, each family takes a computer home with them. Breakfast and a free t-shirt will be provided. Spanish language skills are helpful but not necessary.

Guide students on a trip around the globe without leaving the kitchen. Volunteers will prepare and enjoy cookies made for the school fair the next day, as well as a light lunch.

Introduce students to the sport of tennis through an interactive and fun sports workshop. Encourage physical activity and foster self-confidence and team-building skills among youth and volunteers. Basic knowledge of tennis technique is required.
