Pesticide Spraying

Tuesday, September 1st, 6:00 a.m.
Trucks will spray pesticide in the streets of Brooklyn tomorrow night and Tuesday morning, weather permitting, to reduce the adult mosquito population that could spread West Nile virus.
Specific areas have been targeted based on West Nile virus activity and elevated adult mosquito populations having been detected.
If the weather interferes with that plan, spraying will be rescheduled for Tuesday, September 1st, 8:30 p.m., through Wednesday, September 2nd, 6:00 a.m.
The affected ZIP codes will be 11203, 11204, 11215, 11217, 11218, 11219, 11220, 11225, 11226, 11232, and 11238.
The affected neighborhoods will be Boerum Hill, Borough Park, Crown
Heights, East Flatbush, Flatbush, Greenwood Heights, Lefferts Manor
Historic District, Kensington, Little Caribbean, Little Haiti, Park
Slope, Prospect Heights, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Prospect Park South,
South Slope, Sunset Park, and Windsor Terrace.
Since 1999, West Nile virus has been detected in mosquitoes in New York City. And in 2025, for the first time, mosquitoes also tested positive for Jamestown Canyon
virus.
Minimize your pesticide exposure in the following ways:
Before
- Stay indoors, especially if you have asthma or other respiratory conditions.
- Close the air conditioner vent or set the air conditioner to recirculate.
After
- Wash outdoor toys and equipment with soap and water to remove residue.
- Wash skin and clothing with soap and water, if they've been exposed to pesticides.
- Wash produce thoroughly with water before cooking it or eating it if it's been exposed to pesticides.
The products that will be used are Anvil 10 +10™, Duet™, and Merus® 3.0 Pyrethins 5%.
