"DISMANTLING INJUSTICE" IN NEW YORK'S JUSTICE AND INCARCERATION SYSTEMS

                                    Dismantling Injustice
                  Saturday, July 14th, 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Coalition for Women Prisoners, New York Campaign for Alternatives to Isolated Confinement, and Correctional Association of New York will host "Dismantling Justice."

The free public education event will be held at the Kensington Library on Saturday, July 14th, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The hosts write

"Join us for a public education event on the injustice and incarceration systems in NY. Hear from experts - people who have survived incarceration - about New York's injustice system, and how you can join the movement for change.

The injustice system in New York is damaging to people, families, and communities – disproportionately Black and Latinx people and other people of color.

Driven by, and perpetuating, an ongoing legacy of racism, the system carries out a paradigm of punishment and vengeance instead of helping to bring true safety, healing, or repair.

As some examples: survivors of domestic violence – rather than getting support – are traumatized and harmed further by predatory prosecutions and draconian prison sentences.

Solitary confinement is inflicted on a massive scale, with people being subjected to months, years, and decades of this devastating practice.
The number of older people behind bars has more than doubled and continues to grow, swollen by policies—including senseless parole denials—that favor punishment over public safety.

You will learn about these and other aspects of New York's injustice system. You will also be introduced to a new tool highlighting the particular experiences of women in solitary confinement in New York prisons and jails. And you will learn how you can join with other community members to push for change!"
