COOLING CENTERS OPENING AS REFUGES FROM EXTREME HEAT

 Cooling center, Windsor Terrace Library

Due to expected high temperatures and high heat indices, NYC cooling centers will be open tomorrow, Friday, June 29th, through Monday, July 2nd. The high temperatures for the next four days are expected to be 91, 88, 92, and 85.

The at-risk groups are people who do not have or use air conditioning and are older, have chronic medical or psychiatric conditions, misuse drugs or alcohol, or take certain medications.

Cooling centers are air-conditioned facilities, such as libraries, community centers, senior centers, and NYCHA facilities that are open to the public during heat emergencies.

To find the nearest cooling center and its hours of operation, call 311 or visit www.nyc.gov/beattheheat. Cooling center information will be available beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, June 29th.
