TOUR OF MAUSOLEUMS OF GREEN-WOOD CEMETERY
Green-Wood Cemetery House Tour
Sunday, October 4th, noon to 6:00 p.m.
Walk into historic Green-wood Cemetery's normally off-limits mausoleums tomorrow (Sunday) on a one-day-only self-guided tour of these "houses."
The tour includes the Egyptian Revival tomb of John Taylor Johnston, an early president of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; the Nichols mausoleum, which served as a kind of hostel for Nichols friends and family; the mausoleum of the Deweys, a family of early American settlers; and several more mausoleums.
At each stop, "house" docents will offer a glimpse into the lives of the personalities who now rest in these structures.
Wear sneakers or other comfortable walking shoes and walk the route, or use the Green-Wood trolley for "hop on, hop off" service between each site. A handy map, provided at the main entrance (500 25th Street at 5th Avenue), will show the location of each open house.
Members of Green-Wood Cemetery and Brooklyn Historical Society pay $15 per ticket. The ticket price is $20 for non-members. Purchase tickets online through Eventbrite.
