Community Forum on SROs (single room occupancies)
and Illegally Converted Apartments
Monday, March 4th, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
with simultaneous Spanish translation
Some owners illegally convert their one-, two-, and three-family homes by altering them without the approval of city agencies, such as the fire department and the health department. Conversions are often done in a dangerous way so the owners can squeeze as many people as possible into the spaces, giving them more profits.
What are your rights if your neighbor has illegally converted his or her house into a potential firetrap? What's the appropriate way for you to report an illegal conversion or SRO? You'll get answers to these questions and more at the community forum.
