Astoria Federal Savings on 18th Avenue is offering a free seminar: "Straight Talk on Social Security: what you need to know to maximize Social Security benefits today." The speaker will be Jody Harris.

Mr. Harris worked for the Social Security Administration for thirty-four years; for ten of them, he was the agency's Public Affairs Specialist for the state of Alabama. He is now the Social Security Consultant for Protective Life Corporation, a financial services holding company.

ASTORIA IS GUARDED AT NIGHT

A security guard has been hired to work nights in Kensington's Astoria Federal Savings at Church and McDonald. He's stationed in the vestibule, where the bank's ATMs are located. The guard began his job on Monday. 

He reports that Astoria now has a guard twenty-four hours a day--part of the time in the bank and part of the time in the vestibule.

The presence of a security guard will help people feel safer when they use an ATM during non-banking hours and will prevent people from sleeping and defecating in the vestibule.

ASTORIA BANK FACELIFT

Astoria Federal Savings (101 Church Avenue, corner of McDonald Avenue) is making alterations to its upper level, so the Personal Bankers/account representatives have been moved to the lower level--the area customers used to go to when they only had one transaction to make.
