ACTIVITIES AT OPEN GARDENS NYC IN THE EAST FOURTH STREET COMMUNITY GARDEN (FREE)

 
SAT 6/6
Ukulele Workshop
9:30 – 10:30am
The workshop is designed for adults and older kids who are keen to learn or already dabbling in playing the ukulele and would benefit from a supportive community.
Yoga by YogaSole
11:00am – 12:00pm
Take a break from your busy day and immerse yourself in nature while practicing yoga. This in-person event is the perfect opportunity to unwind, stretch, and connect with your mind and body. Whether you're a seasoned yogi or a beginner, all levels are welcome. Grab your yoga mat and come join us for a rejuvenating experience in the garden!
Jazz Guitar w/ Ed MacEachen
12:00 – 1:00pm
Ed MacEachen is a jazz guitarist who got his professional start in 1977 in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, where he studied with Bill D’Arrango (sideman with Ben Webster and Dizzy Gillespie). Ed moved to New York in 1984, working in the bands of Jack McDuff, Chico Hamilton and Ernestine Anderson. He lives and performs in the New York City area and can be heard on Eliot Zigmund’s “Starlight,” Bill Mobley’s “Singularity” and Liz Child's "Take Flight," among others. Ed teaches in the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music program (since 1989) and at the 92nd Street Y (since 1996).
Pollinator Walkabout with the Flatbush Gardener
1:00 – 3:00pm
Explore the garden’s plants and flowers, and learn how to see them in new ways with urban naturalist Chris Kreussling (aka the Flatbush Gardener). We'll "hunt" for pollinators, and other flower visitors, around the garden. As we try to identify them, we'll learn about the garden’s biodiversity and ecology.

Open Bluegrass Jam
2:00 – 4:00pm
Open Bluegrass Jam Sessions are scheduled throughout the 2026 season, weather permitting. Bring your guitar, ukulele, banjo, etc., and join in! All skill levels and ages are welcome. Kids are invited to dance along and possibly even touch the instruments after the session.

Interactive Baby Music Class With Flying Teapot
9:30 – 10:30am
Join us for a creative and very interactive hour of music, with songs and instruments for littles, geared to babies through age 4, led by Joanne Riel of Flying Teapot. It's a great show, and the littles love it!

Garden Toy Story art activity
11:00am – 12:00pm
All ages welcome! Kids are asked to bring a favorite toy that can be placed in various parts of the garden to create a little scene. We can combine toys too for more interesting setups, then make drawings of the toys among the plants and We can also write stories about the toy and its adventures in the garden. Each kid will get a little drawing book. Markers, colored pencils, and oil pastels will be provided.
