At this tribute to Bangladesh's martyred intellectuals, celebrate the legacy of exceptional intellectuals who have shaped Bangladesh.
The event is free and open to the public. It will take place on Martyred Intellectuals Day, which honors 1,111 Bangladeshi intellectuals who were killed by Pakistani military forces during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. The dead had been teachers, doctors, lawyers, journalists, and other professionals.
Martyred Intellectuals Day is observed annually on December 14th.
Performers
- Global Groove: an instrumental performance by the Brooklyn Arts-funded project of virtuoso tabla player Mir Naqibul Islam.
- Bangladesh Institute of Performing Arts (BIPA): This organization works to promote Bengali arts, culture, and language in New York City.
- Dinat Jahan Munni: Solo vocals by the acclaimed contemporary singer and playback artist.
