New York City's Open Streets program gives pedestrians and cyclists more room to enjoy open public space. On or after July 1st, Beverley Road will be an Open Street from Church Avenue to E. 2nd Street for the second year in a row.
The Department of Transportation is going to permanently redesign Beverley Road to better prioritize pedestrians and cyclists, helping it evolve beyond the need for metal barriers.
Beverley Road will have Full Closure on Saturdays and Sundays, from 10:00 a.m.
to 6:00 p.m. Full Closure supports multiple uses,
such as outdoor dining and community and cultural programming, along with other
car-free activities.
Parking and vehicle access aren't permitted
when full closure is in effect. A fifteen-foot emergency lane must also
remain clear at all times for emergency vehicle access.
On an Open Street, all activities are free, and they're open to New Yorkers of all ages and abilities.
