Flatbush Jewish Center presents
"Masters of Hindustani and Klezmer"
An offshoot of the Church Avenue Sessions, the Kensington Creators Series focuses on collaborations between artists from South Brooklyn. This concert will feature two different improvisation traditions and some interesting crossovers.
First set: A Brooklyn-based psychedelic Yiddish folk band led by violinist Jake Shulman-Ment, Midwood is a contemporary celebration of the Jewish tradition of wandering. It features Jake Shulman-Ment on violin, Eleonore Weill on flutes and hurdy gurdy, Yoshie Fruchter on guitar, and Satoshi Takeishi on percussion.
Second set: Mir Naqibul Islam's New Sound is "a contemporary reimagining of the traditional tabla solo." It features Mir Naqibul Islam on tabla, Srikar Ayyalasomayajula on harmonium, and Pranav Shikarpur on flutes.
Third set: The two ensembles will perform together.
The concert will take place on Thursday, October 22nd. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the concert will start at 7:00 p.m.
