Scouting America Troop 187B, Brooklyn is out in front of Foodtown on McDonald collecting for The Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish pantry until 3 PM today. 

The food pantry is particular in need of things like salt, canned fruit, peanut butter, flour, sugar, mayo, ketchup, tea, and cooking oils.

Cash donations for grocery gift cards are also welcomed.

The Youth at Holy Apostles are organizing a food drive to collect non-perishable items for families in need.

 

Tables will be set up at Foodtown of Kensington and John's Deli on Prospect Ave from 2-4 pm.

 

To donate, please bring the following items: water, juice, pasta, canned tomato sauce, canned vegetables & fruits, mac and cheese, hot/cold cereal, canned beans, rice, peanut butter, jelly and bread.

Scout Troop 187B will hold a food drive on Saturday, November 8th, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to help stock the food pantry at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church (IHM) with non-perishable food. The drop-off location for the food is Foodtown of Kensington.

Pack 187 and 187G will also hold a food drive to stock the IHM pantry. Theirs will be on Saturday, November 15th, and Sunday, November 16th, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and will also be at Foodtown.

The food pantry's most-needed items are 

• cereal, peanut butter, jelly
• canned fruits, soups
• coffee, tea, crackers
• rice, flour, sugar, grains 
• shelf-stable milk  
• grocery store gift cards.

Cash donations are also welcome and will be applied toward gift cards. They can be donated to the troop or directly to the food pantry. 

All donations support Immaculate Heart of Mary Church's food pantry as it supports our neighbors who are in need.

DONATE THANKSGIVING SIDE DISHES TO A NEIGHBORHOOD FOOD PANTRY

 At Foodtown of Kensington, you can purchase a bag of food for Thanksgiving side dishes that will be donated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary food pantry.

Tell a cashier that you want to buy a bag (or additional bags, if you like), and the cost ($10 per bag) will be added to your bill.

Each Buy-A-Bag contains a can of vegetables, a can of gravy, a bag of instant potatoes, a bag of rice, and a can of sweet potatoes.

GIRL SCOUTS WILL COLLECT SUPPLIES NEEDED BY SEAN CASEY ANIMAL RESCUE

Supply Drive for Sean Casey Animal Rescue

Saturday, March 16th, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Rain Date: Saturday, March 30th, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

To take proper care of the animals at Sean Casey Animal Rescue as well as the rescue itself, particular supplies are necessary. Because some of those items are currently running low, Girl Scout Troop 2700 has decided to hold a supply drive in front of Foodtown of Kensington.

The supplies needed are

• paper towels,
• dish soap,
• Brillo,
• latex gloves (all sizes),
• bleach (regular unscented),
• pillowcases,
• sheets,
• blankets,
• towels,
• newspapers,
• canned dog food (any brand),
• canned cat food (any brand), and
• hard chew toys.

Bring the items to the supply drive on Saturday, March 16th, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. You can purchase them anyplace you want to, including at Foodtown of Kensington.

The event has a rain date of Saturday, March 30th, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Bring your kids to Foodtown of Kensington to get their photo taken with Santa Claus. Santa and a professional photographer will visit Foodtown on Sunday, December 3rd, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Santa will be delighted to have his photo taken with all of the kids who go to see him. Free photos and digital images will be available immediately after each photo session ends.

HEALTH WARNING ABOUT DOLE PACKAGED SALADS

Dole Salad Company has informed Foodtown that it is voluntarily withdrawing from the market all Dole-branded packaged salads, which are sold in the produce department of Foodtown and other supermarkets.

This withdrawal is being performed voluntarily by Dole in collaboration with the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control.

A multistate outbreak of listeriosis has been linked to packaged salads produced at the Springfield, Ohio, Dole processing facility. Listeria can cause a serious, life-threatening illness.

These packaged salads were sold under various brand names: Dole, Fresh Selections, Simple Truth, Marketside, The Little Salad Bar, and President's Choice. The packaged salads can be identified by the letter "A" at the beginning of the manufacturing code found on the package.

Twelve people infected with the outbreak strain of Listeria have been reported from six states since July 5, 2015, including New York. Twelve were hospitalized, and one died as a result of listeriosis.

SCOUTS COLLECTING FOOD FOR IHM FOOD PANTRY

Sunday, June 8th, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

To help stock the food pantry of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, the church's Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will collect non-perishable food tomorrow in front of Foodtown, 382 McDonald Avenue at Albemarle Road. The food's recipients are our neighbors who are in need.

Non-perishable foods have a long shelf life, with expiration dates far into the future. Some of the foods are canned tuna fish, canned beans, dried beans, canned fruit, dried fruit, juice, peanut butter, jelly, crackers, nuts, canned vegetables, boxes of rice, boxes of past, and more. The healthier, the better--low salt, low sugar, whole grains....

The church's food pantry needs these as well as personal care items every day of the year.

Cub Pack 187 and Scout Troop 187 meet at Brooklyn Prospect Charter School, formerly the home of Immaculate Heart of Mary School.

NEW LOOK FOR THE ANA BULLETIN BOARD

The ANA bulletin board

The newly-redesigned bulletin board of the Albemarle Neighborhood Association (ANA) looks bright and cheery. The board is on the wall in Foodtown near the cashiers. With fall approaching, be on the lookout for announcements about ANA's fall meeting schedule.

The focus of ANA since its founding in 1973--it's the oldest neighborhood association in Brooklyn--has been safety, security, and quality of life, concerns shared by all residents. Guest speakers have been the police precinct commander, Brooklyn borough president, city councilmember, state assemblymember, Sanitation Department, MTA, owner of Foodtown, and more.

Meetings are open to members and to non-members. No fee is charged to attend a meeting.

Non-members are welcome to join ANA and strengthen its numbers. Membership is open to anyone who resides in or owns a business in the area that ANA serves. Dues cost $20 per year for an individual or a family. Associate Membership dues for business owners cost $25 per year.

ANA meets once a month on a Thursday during the months of September, October, November, March, April, May, and June, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

LOCAL FOOD DRIVE THIS WEEKEND FOR LOCAL RESIDENTS

Immaculate Heart of Mary Cub Scout Pack 187 will hold a food drive this weekend to collect non-perishable food for local residents in need. The food drive will be held at Foodtown this Saturday, November 3rd, and Sunday, November 4th. It will start at 11:00 a.m. on both of those days and end at 5:00 p.m.

The Scouts meet at Brooklyn Prospect Charter School (formerly Immaculate Heart of Mary School).

Albemarle Neighborhood Association Meeting

Thursday, November 18th, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Foodtown is getting its food from a new supplier, and customers will be paying less than before. Store owner Noah Katz will explain how this is possible when he speaks at the Albemarle Neighborhood Association (ANA) meeting on November 18th.

The meeting is free and is open to everyone. Foodtown and ANA will provide refreshments.

Location: Flatbush & Shaare Torah Jewish Center, 327 East 5th Street, at the corner of Church Avenue. Enter through the wheelchair-accessible entrance at street level.

"Savings in Brooklyn: Kensington Treasures," published in today's Daily News, explores businesses on Church Avenue from Dahill Road to Ocean Parkway in pursuit of variety and good prices. The article covers everything from paninis, pancakes, and pastries to perfume, pedicures, and perms to plumbing supplies, paint, and pool-playing.

Kensington is described as "a vibrant community." Nice!
