TATTOOS PLUS EMBROIDERY

"Needle and Thread":
Selected Works by Angus Hendry and Madison Omahne
through Wednesday, May 23rd

This month's art exhibit at Steeplechase Coffee Shop combines traditional tattoo designs by Angus Hendry with embroidery by Madison Omahne. Together they form A&M Custom Embroidery.
"The process evolves from a custom tattoo drawn onto raw canvas by Angus, then Madison stitches the outline in black and highlights the image with color. The design is embroidered onto raw canvas, like a tattoo is inked into skin as the artists reinterpret these classic images to create a work of their own."
The Steeplechase blog reports that "Angus and Madison’s show is almost sold out! They sold more than half their pieces at the opening setting a new Steeplechase record."

The father of the girl also confirmed the story to me. At this time the police have no leads and everyone is keeping quiet about the story. The million dollar question is WHY? Doesn't the community deserve to know whats going on so parents can protect their children from predators?"

STREET HAILING LEGALIZED FOR LIVERY CABS

For-hire vehicles (car services, livery cabs, radio-dispatched cabs) can now legally pick up people who flag them down in the places where it's notoriously difficult to find a yellow cab: Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island, and north of 96th Street in Manhattan. The Taxi and Limousine Commission voted on Thursday to legalize street hails for them.

Over the next three years, 18,000 special hail licenses for use in those boroughs will be issued to livery cabs at a cost of $1,500 each. Twenty percent (3,600) of the cabs will be handicapped-accessible. The first 6,000 licenses will be available for purchase in June. After they're sold, 6,000 more will be offered for sale, followed by 6,000 more.

The cars will have roof lights, will charge uniform metered fares, will use GPS vehicle locations systems, and will have readers for credit and debit cards.

All of the cars will be the same color, but that hasn't been chosen yet.
The cars will continue to provide prearranged service to those who call the company for a ride.

KENSINGTON LIBRARY WILL BE BPL'S FIRST "GREEN" LIBRARY

When the Kensington branch of the Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) opens this fall, it'll be the first in the BPL system to be designated as "green." The branch will be "LEED certified" (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) because of its "energy savings, water efficiency, CO2  emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts."

The location of the Kensington Library (now at 410 Ditmas Avenue, between E. 4th and E. 5th streets) will be 4209-4217 18th Avenue, between E. 2nd and E. 3rd streets.

This is the first announcement the Daily News made about the construction of the new building:
Councilman Noach Dear on Friday unveiled the site for a new public library branch.
Dear secured about $4 million for the library from the City Council budget.
Construction of the library branch, at 4209-4217 18th Ave., will begin in about a year.
It's said that good things come to those who wait. Well, this has been quite a wait: that announcement was published on August 3, 1998!
