BRING FOOD SCRAPS AND LEAVES TO THE EAST FOURTH STREET COMMUNITY GARDEN

The East Fourth Street Community Garden is open to the public through October 31st from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays, and from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sundays.

Continue to drop off food scraps for the gardeners to use for compost through November 19th from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Saturdays (no Sunday hours).

But don't leave food scraps by the gate, bring them into the garden. Food scraps left by the gate will be thrown away instead of composted.

Also, drop off your fallen leaves at the garden during its annual Fall Leaf Drive from October 19th through November 20th. Bring them to the garden on Wednesdays, between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., and on Saturdays, between 10:00 a.m. and noon.

Just bring leaves--not garden trimmings, branches, roots, or litter. The gardeners will use the leaves to compost the food scraps that neighbors donate to them. Leaves are valuable "browns" (carbon-rich material) that balance the food scraps in their compost bins.

After November 20th, and until the garden reopens in April 2023, don't bring any compost or leaves to the garden.

The East Fourth Street Community Garden is part of the New York City Parks Department's GreenThumb, the largest community garden program in the United States.
