UPDATED: KENSINGTON FARMSTAND CANCELED FOR THIS YEAR

Update from GrowNYC's Farmstand Program Coordinator, July 4, 2022:
"Due to acute staffing shortages in our Farmstand program, GrowNYC program staff are stretched beyond their capacity to deliver quality services to all our current Farmstand sites. Therefore, we have made the difficult decision to pause operation at Kensington Farmstands for the 2022 season.

GrowNYC remains committed to providing equitable food access across the city, and therefore we have prioritized sites with the highest SNAP and nutrition benefit redemption rates. Due to neighborhood demographics, Kensington has the lowest SNAP redemption rates among all our farmstand sites at 22%, while our other sites have SNAP redemption rates in the 60 to 70% range.

We did not make this decision lightly, and deeply regret the situation our organization has found itself in.  We are working with Council Member Hanif’s staff to find a community partner who might be able to take over operation of the Kensington site going forward this season."

From GrowNYC's Farmstand Program Coordinator, June 3, 2022:
"Unfortunately, Kensington Farmstand will close for this year. We'll be looking to bring it back again next season."

Under the name "Kensington Youthmarket," the market was located on Fort Hamilton Parkway--alongside the Windsor Terrace Library--from 2011 through 2018.

In 2019, when the branch closed for renovations, the market moved to a new location on McDonald Avenue near Albemarle Playground and changed its name to Kensington Farmstand.

The closest GrowNYC greenmarket is located at Bartel-Pritchard Square and is open on Sundays and Wednesdays.
