Community Board 7 Transportation Committee
Meeting on Speed Humps
Wednesday, September 5th, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
A speed hump has been proposed for E. 5th Street, between Fort Hamilton Parkway and Caton Avenue. It'll be discussed and voted on at Community Board 7's next Transportation Committee meeting. All committee meetings are open to the public.
A speed hump--which is not a speed bump--is a traffic-calming measure that's a gradual rise in the road. Its goal is to slow vehicles down to between fifteen and twenty miles per hour. Its measurements are three to four inches high and up to twenty feet long.
At the intersection of E. 5th Street and Fort Hamilton Parkway are the playground of the P.S. 130 Lower School and the Windsor Terrace Library. Even though one side of the playground is on E. 5th Street, this isn't a designated school block, CB 7 says, because the school itself is on Ocean Parkway.
For that reason, the board has a voice in whether or not to approve the speed hump. Community Board 7's Transportation Committee will vote on the proposal at its September 5th meeting, and it will make its recommendation to the full board to vote on at its September 26th monthly meeting, also open to the public.
Two other speed humps are listed on the agenda, one on 28th Street, between 3rd and 4th avenues, and one on 45th Street, between 2nd and 3rd avenues.
The date of the meeting is Wednesday, September 5th, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
