NATIONAL NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME, 66TH PRECINCT
National Night Out Against Crime
Tuesday, August 7th, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
At the nation's 35th Annual National Night Out Against Crime, meet leaders and personnel from the 66th Precinct (Kensington, Borough Park, and Midwood) and interact with neighbors, community members, and local businesses who share the common goal of partnership and safety.
Features include games and activities for youth and information on ways to work with the NYPD and keep your neighborhood safe.
Join the 66th Precinct, the 66th Precinct Community Council, and Community Board 12 for this year's National Night Out Against Crime on Tuesday, August 7th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The event is held annually on the first Tuesday in August.
Enjoy free food, drinks, ice cream, rides, bounces, games, a petting zoo, giveaways, and more.
The event will be held in front of the 66th Precinct at 5822 16th Avenue, between 58th and 59th streets, in Borough Park.
For more information, contact the 66th Precinct Community Affairs Office at (718) 851-5601.
The National Association of Town Watch introduced National Night Out--America's Night Out Against Crime--in 1984. The night's goals are to
- heighten crime and drug prevention awareness,
- generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts,
- strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and
- send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
In the 1970s, in a grass-roots movement that preceded the creation of National Night Out Against Crime, people in several communities participated in an effort to deter crime by turning on their porch lights, sitting outside, and talking with their neighbors.

"DISMANTLING INJUSTICE" IN NEW YORK'S JUSTICE AND INCARCERATION SYSTEMS
Dismantling Injustice
Saturday, July 14th, 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Coalition for Women Prisoners, New York Campaign for Alternatives to Isolated Confinement, and Correctional Association of New York will host "Dismantling Justice."
The free public education event will be held at the Kensington Library on Saturday, July 14th, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The hosts write
"Join us for a public education event on the injustice and incarceration systems in NY. Hear from experts - people who have survived incarceration - about New York's injustice system, and how you can join the movement for change.
The injustice system in New York is damaging to people, families, and communities – disproportionately Black and Latinx people and other people of color.
Driven by, and perpetuating, an ongoing legacy of racism, the system carries out a paradigm of punishment and vengeance instead of helping to bring true safety, healing, or repair.
As some examples: survivors of domestic violence – rather than getting support – are traumatized and harmed further by predatory prosecutions and draconian prison sentences.
Solitary confinement is inflicted on a massive scale, with people being subjected to months, years, and decades of this devastating practice.
The number of older people behind bars has more than doubled and continues to grow, swollen by policies—including senseless parole denials—that favor punishment over public safety.
You will learn about these and other aspects of New York's injustice system. You will also be introduced to a new tool highlighting the particular experiences of women in solitary confinement in New York prisons and jails. And you will learn how you can join with other community members to push for change!"

ANIMALS URGENTLY NEED THE BROKEN-DOWN AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM REPLACED AT SEAN CASEY ANIMAL RESCUE
An urgent fund raising appeal has been issued by Sean Casey Animal Rescue. The rescue needs to replace its malfunctioning air-conditioning/heating system. Keeping animals cool in hot weather and warm in cold weather is about their survival.
--------------------
Dear friends,
During this first heatwave of summer 2018 we find ourselves in a crisis. Our central heating/air-conditioning system is failing -- leaving us to rely on back-up units to keep our shelter at a tolerable temperature for our precious animals.
We have the central system being serviced now but the repair will be a temporary fix as the system is just too old and must be replaced. We estimate the cost for the new replacement system at $15,000.00.
If you are able to give, please consider a donation at this time as this is an urgent and time sensitive situation. Our furry and not so furry babies are counting on all of us!
To Donate: Click here to visit our Network for Good Fundraising Page.
We also have a mobile adoption van that cannot be used because the air-conditioning unit is not working so if there is a surplus this is where it will be utilized.
Please share this urgent fundraising appeal and help us reach our goal. No donation is too small and, as always, we appreciate everyone's support!
Sincerely,
Sean Casey and Staff
