MOVIE NIGHT: "SUGAR" (FREE)

Movie Screening: Sugar
Friday, September 8th, 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Kick off Kensington’s fall season with a free movie outdoors at Avenue C Plaza.

On Friday, September 8th, from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., The Kensington Stewards will screen Sugar, the story of Miguel "Sugar" Santos, a 19-year-old from the Dominican Republic whose great pitching arm earns him a tryout on a minor league baseball team in Iowa.

Not the standard sports movie, Sugar highlights what it’s like to arrive in a new country where baseball is the only thing that’s not brand new. Said Slate, "Sugar…give(s) American viewers a sense of how our country must seem to a newly arrived immigrant, without caricaturing or condescending to either guest or host."

The 114-minute long color movie is rated PG-13. Released in 2009, the movie is In Spanish and English. Consult the "Parents Guide" here.

Seats will be provided but not popcorn.

Avenue C Plaza, a public pedestrian plaza, is located at the intersection of Avenue C and McDonald Avenue in Kensington.
