ENACTING PROGRESSIVE CHANGE IN NEW YORK STATE: PASS THE NEW YORK HEALTH ACT; THE INDEPENDENT DEMOCRATIC CONFERENCE SHOULD ALIGN WITH DEMOCRATS

The New York Health Act;
The Independent Democratic Conference
Thursday, June 15th, 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Representatives from two progressive organizations will speak at Hinterlands Bar about how to enact change at the state level in New York.

From 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Katie Robbins, representing Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP) - NY Metro Chapter, will talk about the New York Health Act (NYHA), followed by a Q&A session.

NYHA would provide universal, comprehensive healthcare to every resident of the state of New York, without premiums, co-pays, deductibles, or limited provider networks. Every New Yorker would be eligible, regardless of age, income, employment, or other status.

The proposed single-payer Act has been passed in the State Assembly (more than once), but it's bogged down in a committee in the State Senate.

Seth Pollack from No IDC NY will talk from 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. about the impact the breakaway Democrats in the Independent Democratic Conference (IDC) are having on the fate of bills in the State Senate. The IDC has handed control of the State Senate to the Republicans, even though the Democrats are in the majority. Seth's presentation will also be followed by Q&A.

After the presentations and the Q&A sessions, attendees can get information about joining any of the many groups in Brooklyn that are currently working to resist the Trump agenda at the state and local levels.

The event is free and open to the public. It will be held in Hinterlands Bar's back room. Hinterlands serves food.

About Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP) - NY Metro Chapter

The mission of PNHP is to educate physicians, other health workers, and the general public on the need for a comprehensive, high-quality, publicly-funded health care program, equitably-accessible to all residents of the United States.

PNHP's goal is the restoration of what it views as the primary mission of physicians, acting as professional advocates for our patients.

PNHP is an independent, non-partisan, voluntary organization. PNHP's work is supported by our members' dues and contributions, and by grants from progressive foundations; it accepts no funding from pharmaceutical companies or other for-profit entities.

PNHP organizes physicians, medical students, other health workers, and the public in support of this program and promotes discussion of health policy in the U.S. through conferences, lectures, articles, and other methods.

About No IDC NY

No IDC NY is a grassroots coalition demanding a real, progressive majority in the New York State Senate. Formed in the aftermath of Trump's election, they educate voters about the Democrats who've left their party to put Republicans in power in Albany. They do outreach, organize demonstrations, and raise money as a registered multi-candidate committee.
