CURBSIDE LEAF COLLECTION SCHEDULE
Fallen leaves are collected curbside by the Department of Sanitation (DSNY). They turn them into compost, a natural soil amendment. Do not set out leaves, grass, branches, and yard clippings generated by hired professionals. Professionals must dispose of them at a permitted composting facility.
Leaf collection is part of the program for the portion of residents in Community Board 7 whose organics are collected by DSNY. Your leaves will not be collected separately. Put the leaves in your brown organics bin or in a paper lawn and leaf bag and set them out at the curb for pick-up with your regularly scheduled organics collection.
The rest of Community Board 7's residents and all of Community Board 12's residents should set out their leaves at the curb after 4:00 p.m. on Saturday evening, November 26th. Collection is scheduled to start on Sunday, November 27th. Since you do not have brown organics bins, put your leaves in either a paper lawn and leaf bag or an open, unlined container.
Paper lawn & leaf bags can generally be purchased at hardware and home improvement stores and many larger supermarkets. Click here to see a map of where you can buy paper lawn and leaf bags. Do not put leaves in plastic bags; they cannot be composted.
