WALKATHON IN PROSPECT PARK FOR THE MALALA FUND, FOR GIRLS' EDUCATION WORLDWIDE

Walkathon for The Malala Fund
Saturday, May 21st, 12:30 p.m.

A dynamic group of Brooklyn kids are bringing attention this year to the over 60 million girls in the world who are denied education, through supporting The Malala Fund (malala.org), founded by Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai.

Kids for a Better Future (www.kidsforabetterfuture.org) is a group of Brooklyn children, grades 3-12, dedicated to doing their part for kids around the world. KBF was founded in 2007 by a small group of 3rd graders.

Every year since 2007, KBF has chosen a different cause to support -- from a girls' school in Herat, Afghanistan, to children's healthcare in Bhopal, India, to supporting homeless kids in NYC. KBF has raised a total of over $100,000 in the past nine years for children all over the world!

The 12th graders founded the organization in their 3rd grade. Now, the new 3rd graders are taking it over! Under the mentorship of a few older kids, these 3rd graders have met with representatives of the Malala Fund, and have already raised over $8,000 this year for the girls' schools and educational programs they run.

The 9th Annual KBF Walkathon will be held on May 21st, 2016 at 12:30pm in Prospect Park. This will be the last Walk for the 12th graders (soon off to college) and the first for the 3rd graders. Organized by both age groups, KBF hopes it will be their biggest and most successful Walkathon yet!

Further details are on the Walkathon flyer (posted above) and the KBF website.

The Malala Fund runs a host of life changing programs, including funding the efforts of Pakistani schools to enroll more girls, establishing girls’ mentorship programs in Nigeria, investing in girls’ schools for Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Jordan, training Kenyan girls living in slums in information technology, and much more. Additionally, the Malala Fund also invests in crucial advocacy work, bringing pressure on governments to enact policies that will make Malala’s dream of universal girls’ education a reality.
