AN OPPORTUNITY TO SLOW DOWN SPEEDING DRIVERS IN WINDSOR TERRACE

Speed Humps in Windsor Terrace
Tuesday, October 13th, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Speeding has been an ongoing problem on many streets in Windsor Terrace. To increase pedestrian, bicyclist, and driver safety, drivers need to slow down.

Speed humps (NOT bumps) are one of the traffic-calming methods often used to resolve the problem. A "speed hump" isn't a bump. It's a gradual rise in the road, designed to slow vehicles down to between fifteen and twenty miles per hour. The hump is three to four inches high and up to twenty feet long.

Community Board 7's Transportation Committee met in August to consider a request for fifteen additional speed humps for Windsor Terrace, but the committee didn't reach a decision. A follow-up meeting is scheduled for October 13th. The meeting is open to the public. Residents will have the opportunity to voice their opinions to committee members about the proposed speed humps.

When the committee reaches a decision, it will make a recommendation to the full Community Board. If the board votes in favor of the humps, the New York City Department of Transportation will install them.

If approved, the speed humps will be located at

  • Vanderbilt Street between Prospect Park Southwest and McDonald Avenue (3),
  • Seeley Street between Prospect Park Southwest and McDonald Avenue (3),
  • Terrace Place between Prospect Park Southwest and Prospect Avenue(2),
  • Windsor Place between 11th Avenue and Terrace Place (2),
  • 19th Street between Vanderbilt Avenue and  Seeley Street,
  • 18th Street between Terrace Place and Seeley Street,
  • Sherman Street between 11th Avenue and Terrace Place,
  • Prospect Avenue between Seeley Street and Vanderbilt Street, and
  • Kermit Place between Caton Place and Caton Avenue.

Sign a petition to Community Board 7 to encourage its members to vote in favor of the speed humps.
