THE DOG RUN: THE NEXT STEP IN MOVING FORWARD

Kensington Dog Run Association meeting
Thursday, March 19th, 7:30 p.m.

Neighborhood dogs will reap the rewards of exercising, socializing, and breathing fresh air in the Parade Ground when residents get the go-ahead for a dog run there.

Several dog-loving residents have formed a group that all responsible dog owners and supporters are welcome to join. Working together as the Kensington Dog Run Association, their goal is to create an enclosed dog run in the Parade Ground for the benefit of the dogs of the Kensington, Windsor Terrace, Ditmas Park, and Midwood area.

In this fenced-in area, dogs would be allowed off-leash during the day. The dog run would supplement the areas of Prospect Park where dogs are allowed off-leash only early in the morning and late at night.

The diagram above shows the proposed location in red. This spot, suggested by the park administration, is a piece of unused land near the police station, on Coney Island Avenue between Caton Place and Kermit Place.

Steps now being taken to get the dog run built include raising funds and raising community awareness and support for the project. Ultimately, the Kensington Dog Run Association would take responsibility for maintaining the area and planning for upkeep, along with the Parks Department.

The Kensington Dog Run Association, Inc. is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization.

Meeting location: The March 19th meeting will take place in the Recreation Room of the apartment building at 346 Coney Island Avenue, between Caton Place and Kermit Place.
