EAT AN APPLE FOR NEW YORK

Mmmm, McIntosh

Crunch into an apple tomorrow at noon to help our city set the world record for "Most Participants In An Apple-Crunching Event."

New York City dreamed up the idea of the Big Apple Crunch in 2012 and scheduled it to fall on the second annual celebration of Food Day. About 400,000 New Yorkers bit into New York State apples last year. This year's goal? One million!

Find a Big Apple Crunch location online, or head over to P.S. 154 or P.S. 230.

GrowNYC and Food Day are the hosts of the Big Apple Crunch. Center for Science in the Public Interest founded Food Day in 2011, setting October 24th as the annual date. Food Day's focus is on healthy, affordable, sustainably-produced food.

The sponsor of Big Apple Crunch is the New York Apple Association.

By the way, the U.S. is the second-largest apple producer in the world (after China), and New York is the second-largest producer in the U.S. (after Washington).
