SMASHING PUMPKINS; GROWING SPROUTS; AND GUARDING TREES

2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.: Starting at the garden, Marc Dreyfus of Brooklyn Shade will lead a workshop on building wooden guards to protect the neighborhood's street trees.

The tree guard building clinic includes (1) a presentation on the environmental and health benefits of trees and proper tree care, and (2) participants designing, measuring, and constructing an affordable tree guard for a young neighborhood tree. All students have a chance to measure, cut, and assemble the guard under the supervision of the clinic instructors.

Participants will be given a material list, plans, and instructions on how to build their own wooden tree guard. Click here to RSVP.

2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.: Use Compost for Brooklyn's tools to smash your Halloween jack o' lanterns, and then add the pumpkin pieces to the garden's compost bins.

3:00 p.m to 4:00 p.m.: Denise Lekowski will be in the Compost for Brooklyn garden sharing her expertise on sprouting.
