Brooklyn Underground:
Theatrical Stories from the Green-wood Cemetery

A spirited and intriguing take on the rich and vibrant history at Green-Wood Cemetery is offered as the Green-Wood Historic Fund presents Brooklyn Underground: Theatrical Stories from the Green-wood Cemetery, a new play presented by The Artful Conspirators. The Brooklyn-based theater company will feature stories of Green-Wood’s permanent residents, from prominent 19th-century figures to modern-day neighborhood locals.

Directed by David A Miller, Brooklyn Underground will be performed in the Historic Chapel at Brooklyn’s Historic Green-Wood Cemetery on
Friday, September 23rd, 8:00 p.m.,
Saturday, September 24th, 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.,
Sunday, September 25th, 3:00 p.m.,
Friday, September 30th, 8:00 p.m.;
Saturday, October 1st, 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.; and
Sunday, October 2nd, 3:00 p.m.
This lively, audience-engaging production features prominent "permanent residents" such as stage actress Kate Claxton, "the Sarah Bernhardt of America;" theatrical pioneer Laura Keene, who performed at Ford’s Theatre on the night Lincoln was assassinated; and McDonald Clarke ("the Mad Poet of Broadway"), who give first-hand accounts of their fascinating lives. Audience members may even hear some of their own words echoed in the performance, which is within walking distance of where these historic "residents" lie in permanent rest.

Admission is $20 in advance and $25 at the door. For Green-Wood Historic Fund members, admission is $20 in advance and at the door. Seating is limited.

Reservations for this performance are strongly recommended. If the performance is not sold out in advance, walk-ups will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis. To make a reservation or to find out more information, visit www.green-wood.com/toursevents or call (718) 210-3080.

Brooklyn Underground is sponsored in part by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by the Brooklyn Arts Council, Inc. (BAC) and was first performed at the Old Stone House in Brooklyn, August 2010.
