WINDSOR TERRACE MOSQUITOES HAVE WEST NILE VIRUS

Mosquitoes in Windsor Terrace and several other Brooklyn neighborhoods have West Nile virus, reports the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOH). No cases in people have been reported.

Mosquitoes love standing water as a place to lay their eggs. If you have ANY standing water on or near where you live, fill out the Standing Water Monitoring Report Form on the NYC DOH website. The page says
"If you are reporting standing water that is due to a sewer back-up, clogged storm drain, a leaking fire hydrant or water coming up from the ground or street, please call the Citizen Service Center at 311."
All other types of standing water should get reported on the form.

Although they're accepting reports, they can't visit or treat all of the locations that get reported. So, it's really up to all of us as individuals to figure out how to get rid of standing water that's on or near our property.

To learn about protecting yourself from mosquitoes, see the New York City Department of Health and New York State Department of Health websites.
