TREE AXER SENTENCED

Francisco Marxuach wasn't interested in stealing the bike that was chained to the tree he hacked down. And he had no negative feelings toward the tree itself. He was, however, angry at a person who, he says, had been disrespectful to him. A person who lived in the building that the tree was in front of and in which Mr. Marxuach used to live.

Brooklyn Criminal Court Judge Evelyn LaPorte sentenced him to two days of community service for criminal mischief. She'll dismiss the case in six months if Mr. Marxuach doesn't get himself into any more trouble--with or without an axe.
