FRESH FRUIT AND VEGGIES ON FORT HAMILTON PARKWAY, STARTING THIS SATURDAY

Looking for locally−grown, fresh fruits and vegetables? You’re in luck! This Saturday is opening day for a new Youthmarket farm stand in Kensington/Windsor Terrace.

Youthmarket, a program of GrowNYC, is a network of youth-run farm stands where local teens sell fresh and affordable fruits and vegetables grown by area farmers. In response to a request from neighborhood residents, I am pleased to partner with GrowNYC to bring Youthmarket to our community this summer:
  • What: Kensington Youthmarket Farm Stand
  • When: Saturdays, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. (July 9th through October 29th); Grand Opening this Saturday (July 9th), 10 a.m.
  • Where: Fort Hamilton Parkway, between E. 4th and E. 5th (in front of the public library)
The Kensington/Windsor Terrace market will be staffed by six Brooklyn high school students who have spent the last eight weeks honing their cooking and nutrition skills through Teen Battle Chef — a program developed and offered by Family Cook Productions to foster culinary and leadership skills and an appreciation for nutrition and sustainable food. I have seen these kids in action (and tasted the results), and their cooking and presentation skills are fantastic. Every Saturday at the market, the teen chefs will be demonstrating some of what they have learned. I know you will be very impressed.

I hope you will join me this Saturday, and Saturdays throughout the summer, to meet these young people and buy locally−grown, farm−fresh produce.

A special thank you to everyone who has made this program possible:
