'Tis the season for mums and pumpkins.

The East Fourth Street Community Garden will host its annual fall flea market on Saturday, October 4th, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Sunday, October 5th, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

In addition to chrysanthemums and pumpkins, books, clothing, toys, housewares, and knickknacks will also be sold.

The garden will use the proceeds to fund the many free events that it offers to the public from April through October.

CREATING SAFE PUBLIC SPACES FOR EACH OTHER THROUGH BYSTANDER INTERVENTION TRAINING (FREE)

 

Bystander Intervention Training

Saturday, October 25th

The New York City Human Rights Commission will provide bystander intervention training at the East Fourth Street Community Garden on Saturday, October 25th, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

 

From the Commission:

Bystander intervention is built on the idea that we all play a role in creating safe public spaces for each other when we see our neighbors and community members facing bias, discrimination, or harassment.

 

The NYC Commission on Human Rights and community partners regularly co-host bystander intervention trainings to provide New Yorkers with the tools and strategies to safely respond when they witness bias incidents and discrimination.

 

Participants leave these trainings equipped with verbal and behavioral de-escalation strategies to non-violently intervene to disrupt hate-violence or hate speech.

 

The trainings explore the meaning of safety, of being an effective ally, and how identity plays a role in the ways we choose to intervene.

The training session is free and open to the public.

BROOKLYN PTA FUN RUN RAISES FUNDS FOR THE NEEDIEST BROOKLYN SCHOOLS

About P.S. 230 and the Brooklyn PTA Fun Run:

The  Brooklyn PTA Fun Run is a family-friendly event where Brooklyn PTAs and community members of all ages come together to run/bike/scoot/walk around Prospect Park loop road (approximately 5K).

 

What’s unique about the Fun Run is that it brings dozens of schools together to raise money together for Brooklyn schools who have/had Title I status in the past three years (i.e., 60% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch).

 

This is one of the only community-wide fundraisers where money is pooled and redistributed to PTAs that have less capacity to raise their own funds. Last year, the Fun Run raised over $18,000 for area schools!
