Community Boards are the liaison between the public and the city's agencies. Community Board 12 encompasses Borough Park, most of Kensington, and parts of Sunset Park and Midwood.

 

All meetings of the full board of Community Board 12 and all meetings of its committees are open to the public. The full board normally meets at 7:00 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of the month from September through June, in person and on Zoom.

Albemarle Neighborhood Association Meeting

Monday, November 4th

Neighborhood residents are invited to the November meeting of the Albemarle Neighborhood Association, the first in-person community meeting of the year.

 

The meeting will take place at the Flatbush Jewish Center on Monday, November 4th, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

New York State Assemblymember Robert Carroll and New York City Councilmember Shahana Hanif have been invited to discuss upcoming community events.

DOGS CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN

Dogs and their humans are invited to celebrate Halloween at the Kensington Dog Run on Sunday, October 27th, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 

Costumes aren't required for dogs or for humans, but wear them if you'd like to.

 

The Kensington Dog Run, located on Coney Island Avenue in the Parade Ground near Prospect Park, opened in July 2020 after several years of community advocacy.

 

The Kensington Dog Run Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit group of neighbors who persistently fought for a dog run and eventually were able to find a home for one.

SMASH YOUR PUMPKINS

 

Pumpkin Smash

Saturday, November 2nd

Repurpose your jack-o-lanterns, painted pumpkins, and uncarved, unpainted pumpkins. Keep them out of landfills by turning them into compost for the East Fourth Street Community Garden.

 

Bring your Halloween pumpkins to the garden's annual Pumpkin Smash on Saturday, November 2nd, between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. 

 

The garden folks will provide music, goggles, baseball bats, and snacks.

 

Pumpkins are 90% water, so they'll help moisten the soil in the garden.

Don't bring pumpkins with glitter or candles because they can't be composted.

The Craft Sale and Fall Festival follows the Car Show and is organized by the Brooklyn Dreams Charter School Home Ec. Club. It runs from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

 

The admission fee is $20 for a family, $10 for an adult, and $5 for a child.

FALL FEST AT P.S. 130 IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

 

Fall Fest

The P.S. 130 PTA will present its annual Fall Fest on Sunday, October 20th, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The fundraiser will be held at the Upper School.

Fall Fest highlights will include 

• bounce houses, 
• face painting, 
• crafts, 
• games, 
• pony rides, 
• live music and performances,
  
• tasty treats.

DJ Eli Paperboy Reed, High and Mighty Brass Band, Ballet Folklorico. and more will be featured.

 

The P.S. 130 PTA uses the funds it raises for school and classroom enrichment initiatives, including recess coaches; grants for teachers to purchase classroom supplies; professional development of teachers and administrators; science curriculum; and STEM initiatives.

 

The funds are also used for musician, artist, and author classroom visits across all grades and an extensive art program, including Art Boxes, supplies, and art materials for every classroom.

 

In addition, the funds are used for a block room, and the integration of an innovative block-based pedagogy; BEAM room, two school libraries; and many community events.

On Saturday, October 5th, and Sunday, October 6th, the FDNY will host the 5th free annual Open House program in various neighborhoods throughout New York City.

More than 200 firehouses and EMS stations will open their doors to the public from either 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The locations of the Open House are listed on FDNY’s interactive map.

Firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics will educate the public about fire and life safety, conduct demonstrations, discuss careers within the Department, and offer tours of FDNY engines, ladder trucks, and ambulances.

Trick-or-Streets returns for a third season in 2024! NYC DOT partners with Open Streets, plazas, and other corridors in October and on Halloween to add pedestrian space during one of the busiest nights of the year.

This month NYC DOT will host more than 100 car-free events across all five boroughs.

Our 10 signature events will take place throughout the month of October leading up to Halloween. These premier locations include Halloween-themed programming and performances. Programming will include live music, circus acts, comedic clown performances, jugglers, and more.

One of those 10 signature events will take place at Kensington Plaza, where Trick-or-Streets will feature Broadway performances, carnival games, prizes, candy, a costume contest, and more.

 

The free event will be held on Saturday, October 19th, from noon to 5:00 p.m. Its sponsors are the New York City Department of Transportation, The Kensington Stewards, New York City Councilmember Shahana Hanif, and Broadway for Arts Education.
