FUND RAISER SING-ALONG FOR LEGAL ASSISTANCE FOR IMMIGRANT CHILDREN THIS WEEKEND
Sing-along Fundraiser for KIND and RAICES
Saturday, June 30th, 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
To raise money for legal assistance for immigrant children, KIND (Kids in Need of Defense) and RAICES (Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services) will host a family sing-along at Hootenanny Art House.
Special guest Tony Soll, music teacher at Brooklyn Friends, will lead the sing-along.
The event will be on Saturday, June 30th, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The suggested donation is $20 per family; any amount above that is welcome. Donate in advance here (if possible or at the door, if necessary.
If at least $2500 is raised, a donor will match $1000, along with a corporate match of $1500. You are welcome to donate even if you can't make it to the event in person.
KIND trains lawyers to represent immigrant children at no cost in connection with their proceedings. They fight for kids to have fair, appropriate treatment while in the immigration system and work to give children the social services necessary to address the traumas associated with these situations.
RAICES provide free and low cost legal services to immigrant children and is focused on reunification via a bond fund. Even with the news today that the policy of separating families will be reversed, organizations like KIND and RAICES will still need significant funding to assist families torn apart.

KENSINGTON POST OFFICE, THE DAY AFTER THE FIRE
three boarded-up street-level windows |
metal covering a second-floor window |
cracked glass on the entrance door |
work area hidden by cardboard |
soot on a pillar in the service area |
soot on another side of the pillar |
The day after yesterday's fire at the Kensington Post Office, the facility opened for business at about 9:00 a.m. A view of the extent of the damage is hidden from the public by the cardboard that's covering the service windows.
Several employees had been at work sorting packages when the fire broke out. Luckily, none of them were injured.
When I asked the employee at the package pick-up window if mail had been destroyed, she answered "some but not much." Then she walked away.
An electrical fire caused the blaze.

FIRE DAMAGES KENSINGTON POST OFFICE
Fire broke out in the Kensington Post Office at 4:21 a.m. today.
The incident was an "All Hands" fire, which calls for a minimum of three fire engines and two ladder trucks responding. More than sixty firefighters responded. Two of them received minor injuries and were taken to Maimonides Hospital.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and neither is the extent of the damage. Three windows on the first floor that firefighters knocked out have been boarded up.
The post office is at 419 McDonald Avenue, between Church Avenue and Albemarle Road, in Kensington. The two-story brick building was constructed in 1935.
The above video showing the fire-fighting efforts is preceded by a thirty-second advertisement.
