REFLECT ON THE "SMALL BUT MIGHTY ACTIVIST COFFEE HOUR"

Reflections on the Small but Mighty Activist Coffee Hour
Monday, May 1st, 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

With ten Small but Mighty Activist Coffee Hours under its belt, Hootenanny Art House is inviting the community to reflect on the Coffee Hour.

If you've participated in any of the Coffee Hours, you're invited to share your experiences and your thoughts about it and brainstorm on how to move forward. If you haven't participated yet but would like to be part of this, you're also welcome.

At the Coffee Hours, neighbors (adults and children) have joined together for political action: writing postcards, using scripts to make phone calls, and signing petitions about the political, economic, and social issues of today's America.

Tomorrow's meeting, however, is a planning meeting, with no prepared actions. RSVP on the event's Facebook page.

ORGANIZING MEETING OF NEW YORK STATE SENATE DISTRICT 17 FOR PROGRESS

Organizing Meeting of New York State District 17 For Progress
                      Sunday, April 30th, 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Although Senator Simcha Felder is registered as a Democrat, he has caucused with the Republicans in the New York State Senate since he was first elected in 2012. In the 2016 election, he ran on three party lines: Democratic, Republican, and Conservative.

Some of his constituents have formed New York State District 17 for Progress and are trying to meet with him to discuss his positions and his voting record. Their wish is that he would align himself with the Senate Democrats, not the Republicans, to help progressive legislation get passed.

Another option is replacing him with a progressive candidate on the Democratic ticket in the 2018 election.

New York State District 17 for Progress is having an organizing meeting on Sunday, April 30th, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the East Midwood Jewish Center, 1625 Ocean Avenue, by Avenue K. Check in at the security desk, and then go upstairs to the 4th floor Board Room.
