Topic: Fighting Low Pay in Kensington
Update on Golden Farm, and a discussion on how to
tackle low paid work in the neighborhood particularly in
regard to immigrant workers.
Sunday May 19h 7:00pm
Topic: We need public space!
Kensington is an extremely diverse neighborhood with a
growing youth population. We have no public open
space and no community center. Nowhere for people
of all backgrounds to come together. How can we fight to
change this?

WORLD PREMIERE OF SEAN CASEY MOVIE
RESCUE! BROOKLYN World Premiere
Wednesday, May 15th, 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Wednesday, May 15th, 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
"RESCUE! BROOKLYN," a documentary about Sean Casey Animal Rescue (SCAR), will have its world premiere at the opening night of the 3rd Annual Art of Brooklyn Film Festival at St. Francis College on Remsen Street.
The cost per ticket is $10 plus a $1.54 fee. Buy tickets online; use promotional code RESCUE to get a $2 discount on each ticket.
Director Charlie Spickler describes the documentary:
"RESCUE! BROOKLYN is a documentary film about Sean Casey Animal Rescue, a small rescue shelter and adoption center in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn NY. It is a very special place and an integral animal rescue resource in the NYC area.Donations and support from admirers of Sean Casey Animal Rescue made the creation of this film possible.
Sean's "community first" approach toward how he runs his shelter and how he interacts within the neighborhoods of Brooklyn and the New York City area are what make SCAR not only unique, but also the success that it is. Success is measured by impact and not dollars, and SCAR is very successful. While Sean is well known in the New York area, what he is doing should be the model for No Kill shelters all over the country. Director Charlie Spickler hopes this documentary will inspire others to take up the fight and do what Sean is doing in their own communities.
RESCUE! BROOKLYN also tells the story of John the dog, a stray puppy who was found in a parking lot, emaciated and unable to move. Sean wasn’t sure that John would even live through the night, but somehow he survived. His slow, steady journey of recovery became a global Facebook phenomenon, with animal lovers from all over the world donating to John’s medical expenses and drawing inspiration from his story."

PROPOSED EXTENSION OF B67 BUS
The broken line indicates the proposed extension of the B67 bus. |
The MTA wants to extend weekday B67 bus service to Williamsburg, starting in September 2013, having concluded that public transportation in that neighborhood is inadequate for an area whose population is growing rapidly. The bus would still begin its route in Kensington on McDonald Avenue at Cortelyou Road and travel to Downtown Brooklyn.
The extended part of the route would stretch from Jay Street to Front Street in DUMBO to York Street to Gold Street to Sands Street, go around the edge of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, to Kent Avenue, and end at Division Avenue. Riders could transfer to the York Street subway station or to the B62 bus on Wythe Avenue.
The new service would operate every thirty minutes between 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on weekdays.
A public hearing about the proposal will be held on Monday, April 29th, at 6:00 p.m.in the Brooklyn Borough Hall Court Room, 209 Joralemon Street, Brooklyn.
People who want to speak at the hearing can register between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Everyone who registers will be permitted to speak for up to three minutes.
Online registration is also available. Register here to speak at the hearing.
People who would like to comment but won't be able to attend can type their comments on the form here and then click "Submit."
Hearing-impaired people who would like to have a sign language interpreter available should call Lois Tendler of New York City Transit Government Affairs at (646) 252-2660. Or send her a fax at (646) 252-2661.
