SPEED HUMP OR NO SPEED HUMP? THAT IS THE QUESTION.

Transportation Committee of Community Board 12
Public Hearing on Albemarle Road Safety Plan
Tuesday, February 25th, 6:00 p.m.

Community Board 12 Monthly Meeting
Tuesday, February 25th, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Speeding has been an ongoing problem on Albemarle Road, from McDonald Avenue to Ocean Parkway. The safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers will be the subject of a public hearing tomorrow night (Tuesday) held by Community Board 12's Transportation Committee. After hearing the public's comments about the Department of Transportation's proposed traffic-calming measures, the committee will either endorse or oppose the recommendations and then present its recommendation to the community board. The measures are:

  • create two No Standing zones of one car-length each to improve visibility for drivers who are on a side street and are going to turn onto or drive across Albemarle,
  • narrow the traffic lanes to slow down vehicles, and
  • install two speed humps (NOT bumps) to slow down vehicles.

Committee meetings and the General Meetings of the community board are open to the public. The General Meetings are normally held on the fourth Tuesday of the month, from September through June, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
