Dear PS 154 Community:

Public School Pre-K Admissions for the 2014-2015 school year will begin on March 3rd, 2014. Before that process commences, I wanted to notify you that we are closing our Pre-K classroom.

As you might know, our community is growing and we are dealing with space constraints in our school. We need to open a new 2nd grade class next year. In order to do this, we have to close either our science lab, computer lab, or Pre-K classroom. This was a difficult decision that was made after extensive discussions with our School Leadership Team (SLT), a group that is made-up of  teachers, parents and the administration.

After careful consideration, we came to the conclusion that closing the Pre-K was our best course of action, given that our labs service roughly 523 students and our Pre-K classroom only services 18 children. I was just notified that we had permission to do this last week.

At PS 154, we deeply value our Pre-K program and wish that we were not faced with such a difficult decision. I wish you the best of luck securing an early childhood placement for the 2014-2015 school year.

Please refer to the Department of Education (DOE) web site for more information about public Pre-K in our area and the application process:  http://schools.nyc.gov/ChoicesEnrollment/PreK/default.htm.
Information Sessions are on the Events page here:   http://schools.nyc.gov/ChoicesEnrollment/PreK/events/default.htm.

If you’d like, you can pick up a hard copy of the Pre K directory in our main office. Please note, our school is listed in the directory because Enrollment was unable to stop printing before they let us know we were able to close the class.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Eric Havlik
Principal
