KUMON MATH AND READING CENTER OPEN

To help his eight-year-old son with math, high school math teacher Toru Kumon devised an educational  method that set his child on a path of self-learning. Two years later, in 1956, the father opened his first school in Osaka, Japan.

Reading was added to the curriculum in 1991.

Franchisees around the world now individually own and operate more than 2,000 Kumon Math and Reading Centers that focus on individual study.

Kumon Math and Reading Center evolved into an after-school academic enrichment program for public and private school students in pre-school through 12th grade. The Kumon Method is also used for remediation.

A center opened on Church Avenue on December 3rd.
