THE HEAT GOES ON

The temperature will continue to be high and so will the heat index. The city's cooling centers will stay open another day--Monday, July 8th.

The weather conditions we are experiencing are dangerous to the health of humans and animals. Never leave a human or an animal in a closed-up car.

Strenuous activity is not a good idea. Drinking a lot of water is a good idea.

The highest-risk groups of people are
  • people without air conditioning,
  • older adults, and
  • people with chronic health conditions.

For the locations and hours of the cooling centers, go to http://maps.nyc.gov/oem/cc/index.htm;jsessionid=3E9DAFDB46AC968985EB3D2F1036A611.

For information about how to avoid heat illness--which you do NOT want to get--go to New York City's website at http://www.nyc.gov/oem or call 311.
