PUBLIC SCHOOL VACATION CUT SHORT

To make up for the week of school lost because of Hurricane Sandy, the Department of Education is shortening mid-winter recess and canceling a clerical half-day.

For mid-winter recess, schools were scheduled to be closed for five days: Monday, February 18th, through Friday, February 22nd. Instead, they'll be closed for two days: Monday, February 18th, and Tuesday, February 19th.

The first June clerical half day, on Tuesday, June 4th, has been canceled. Elementary and intermediate/junior high schools will not close at noon; they'll be open  for the full day.

It looks like the DOE isn't going to make students make up the other one-and-a-half days that they missed.
