PICKUP SOCCER GROUP MEETS YEAR-ROUND

Pickup soccer--which has been described as "organized spontaneity"--is played year-round at the Prospect Park Parade Grounds by the co-ed Brooklyn Pickup Soccer Group. Games are played on Sunday afternoons. They're open to everyone, with most of the players being at the intermediate level.

At the moment, the group doesn't have a permit, so, for the time being, there's no charge and no RSVP is required. When players arrive, they scout around for a playing space. There's no guarantee that a space will be found, but the odds of finding one improve in cold weather.

Meet at Field 7 under the flagpoles at the western end of the Parade Grounds, south of the tennis center. The Parade Grounds are located on Coney Island Avenue, between Caton and Parkside avenues. Meet at 1:30 p.m. for warm-up. Kick-off is at 2:00 p.m. Bring a light shirt and a dark shirt with you.

If you don't see the group or if you arrive late, check the nearby fields in case they had to move.

In seasons other than winter, warm-up is at 3:30 p.m. with a 4:00 p.m. kick-off time.
